File Cleanup for podcasts

Podcast noise removal, right in your browser

Clean up podcast audio in minutes: Kleervox removes background noise from episodes and interviews and levels them to podcast loudness. Your episode is not uploaded for cleaning.

Real rooms, real guests

Not every episode is recorded in a studio

Guests join from kitchens and hotel rooms; hosts record next to a humming laptop. Listeners notice the noise long before they notice the content.

  • Fans, air conditioning and computer hum
  • A guest recording from a busy home
  • Traffic or neighbours bleeding into the mic
  • Hiss from a cheap mic or a high gain setting
  • Episodes that are quieter than every other show
  • Remote interview tracks that sound mismatched
Workflow

From raw take to publish-ready

Clean before you edit, or clean the finished mix — both work. Set your format and loudness once and every episode after that comes out the same way.

  1. 01

    Export and drop in

The full episode or each speaker’s track — MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC and more.

  2. 02

    Noise out, voice kept

A speech-trained AI model removes the background while keeping each voice natural and present.

  3. 03

    Download at −16 LUFS

Levelled and limited to podcast loudness, so it sits right next to the other shows in the feed.

Podcast loudness, built in

Choose the Podcast loudness target and the cleaned episode is measured and levelled to −16 LUFS with a true-peak limiter — one less trip through a separate mastering tool.

Voice clarity (on by default) trims low rumble and boxiness and adds presence, which suits spoken word.

Remote interviews

Recorded each side separately? Clean every guest’s track on its own before mixing: each one only carries its own room’s noise, so each comes out cleaner, and the levelling makes the voices sit together.

Music beds are handled with care

Noise removal is made for speech. Where it finds music under the voice, it turns the music down instead of chopping it in and out between words — and tells you so. Cleaning the voice first and adding the music in your editor gives the best result.

Unreleased episodes stay private

The episode is cleaned in your browser, on your computer. Kleervox only receives its length, size and type to count it against your plan — never the audio, so unreleased interviews stay unreleased.

Record it clean

Cleaner recordings to start with

Speak close to the microphone and keep the gain moderate: noise removal works best when the voice is well above the noise, and a voice that never clips needs no repair. Soft furnishings and a closed door reduce room noise more than any software.

Recording a remote interview over Zoom, Meet or Discord? The AI noise cancellation desktop app cleans the microphone live, so the recording starts cleaner. For other kinds of files, see how to remove background noise from audio files.

Podcast noise removal questions

How do I remove background noise from a podcast?

Export your episode (or each speaker's track), sign in to Kleervox, open File Cleanup and drop the file in. It is cleaned in your browser and downloads at podcast loudness, ready to publish or to drop back into your editor.

What loudness should a podcast be?

Most podcast platforms and producers aim for about −16 LUFS for stereo episodes. The Podcast loudness setting levels the cleaned file to −16 LUFS with a true-peak limiter, so it is not quieter or louder than the shows around it.

Will it remove my intro music?

No. Noise removal is made for speech, so when the tool detects a song or a music bed it turns the music down rather than cutting it out between words — and tells you it did. For the cleanest result, clean the voice tracks first and add music afterwards.

Should I clean each speaker separately?

If you have separate tracks per speaker (a remote interview recorded locally, for example), cleaning each one before mixing gives the best result, because each track only carries its own room noise. A finished mix works too.

Does it work with MP3 episodes?

Yes. An MP3 comes back as an MP3, and WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and Opus are supported too. Files can be up to 30 minutes long on Free and Pro, and up to 3 hours on Creator.
